EDUCATION:
- 1976: Matriculated from Welkom High School in the Free State. Received an A in English.
- 1977: Awarded one of six National Chamber of Mines bursaries.
- 1980. BA from Rhodes University, Grahamstown. Majored in English and Drama.
- 1981: Honours in Drama in Education at the University of Cape Town. (Uncompleted due to the two bereavements – brother and father - in that year and the preceeding year.
- 1985: Attended course in Drama in Education under the tutelage of Dorothy Heathcote at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom.
- 1986: Higher Education Diploma, through UNISA, majoring in English, Speech and Drama. Graduated with As in both major subjects.
- 2006: Masters (Cum Laude) in English from the University of KwaZulu Natal, Pietermaritzburg.
TEACHING/LECTURING EXPERIENCE:
- 1984 – 86: Taught English at the Domincan Convent in Welkom.
- 1993 – 96: Drama Specialist at Howell’s School Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales, UK. Established drama as a GCSE subject and introduced it as a fully fledged curriculum subject. The majority of students achieved A grades.
- 1997- 98: Drama Teacher at Hilton College
South Africa.
- 1998 – 2005: Lecturer at St. Joseph’s Theological Seminary,
South Africa, in Public Reading and Speaking (part-time). Taught students from all over Africa.
- 2005 – 2007: Lectured in Scriptwriting at the Drama Department of the University of Kwa Zulu Natal, (part time). Two of my student’s films were given an MNet EDiT grant in 2006/2007 to be made and both won MNet EDiT Awards in 2007 and 2008.
- 2008 - Current. Lecture at AFDA Film School, Johannesburg, the Wildlife Film Academy in the Kruger Park and Entabene Game Park and offer an online scriptwriting course which has students from the UK and Africa.
